Sub Updates

"The purpose of this subreddit is to foster discussion amongst members of this trade and is in no way intended for gathering data or answering questions regarding or pertaining to software or hardware development"

- Mod Brando

___________

At this time we are banning any app developers within the community. It was a misunderstanding of a rule, that has led to their presence. You cannot understand how much of a my bad that is.

I have a couple things cooking behind the scenes, I hope will work out. Give me a few days, and you should see them around the sub.

____________

RULE CHANGES:

New rule: Rule 6, no app developers

Many of our rules were repetitive, and were pretty much the same rules that are in the terms of service that you agreed to when you signed up for your reddit account.

So going forward any kind of harassment, racism, misogyny, brigading, etc.. can now be reported under "No ToS violations."

As usual any questions, comments or concerns I will address below. 👇

Also anyone has any ideas for the sub, go ahead and shout It out.

My response to the union

I have marked this NSFW, because I will be going into the history of labor unions. Some situations, resulted in a lot of workers dying.

For anyone that is unaware, the employees of the theorist channel, because remember your hosts are not the only employees, There are writers, editors, video production, etc, and they are trying to unionize.

Lunar X, the company that owns the theory channels, is refusing to recognize that Union. Despite the multi-million dollars that run anti-union campaigns, don't listen to the lies. Unions are good.

They are the reason, we are not working 7 days a week 16 hour days. They're the reason that millions of Americans are not being paid pennies. There is a reason they broke kneecaps back in the day. They are the reason that we are able to have vacation time.

These are our rights as American citizens. Higher wages, vacation time, and being treated like a human.

Do you really think a company is going to do that, if not prodded in that direction? There's a reason FLSA exists, there's a reason Title laws exist. And you can thank unions.

Any company that refuses to recognize workers unions, is not worth their salt. This is a peek behind the curtains, as another user put it. And that glimpse doesn't look good.

https://youtu.be/K9gWNn3-gLk?si=KcPlZys6HqwvLk-Q

This was an interview two months ago. They're hoping you'll start making noise. And I agree.

If we simply stop watching, lunar X will claim that their viewership has went down, they are replacing the host. Or for example, maybe one of the executives didn't like the script, or a writer accidentally bumped into him on set, with unions you can't be fired for shit like that. In some cases, the contract makes it very difficult to fire you.

Let me repeat this, WE SHOULD NOT STOP WATCHING. In fact we should increase viewership.

We need to start meming. We need to start talking. Make it known everywhere what their trying to do.

Leave comments under videos, spam social media, MAKE SOME DAMN NOISE!!

You will hear a lot about camaraderie, solidarity, etc... yes there may be times when you are part of a union, that you go on strike. No you won't be paid during that time. But for example if I have 10,000 factory workers part of the Union, that is 10,000 people that fought for your rights to higher wages, vacation, possibly even bonuses. If they're fighting for your rights, of course they expect you to fight for theirs.

So what if you have to pay a very reasonable amount each month to be a part of that Union, when it brings your overall wages up.

UNIONS ARE GOOD, despite the multi-million dollar anti-union campaigns that flourish in our country.

Unions = worker rights

And that translates to other occupations as well.

#How we got the rights we have

The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, are the first to contractually demand a 5-day work week. Laying the groundwork for what we have today.

Federation of organized trades and labor union, in 1884 passed a resolution stating their members would only work an 8-hour work day by may 1, 1886. This directly led to the MayDay strikes.

In May 1886 police shot striking workers in chicago, this led to a massive protest. When a bomb went off, 7 police officers, and and unconfirmed amount of protesters were killed. Eight protesters were arrested for inciting violence. Their trial was considered a farce, and this resulted in the execution of seven of the eight men. This is known as the Haymarket incident.

In the proceeding years, this went on to be called the MayDay strikes. And is essential for laying the groundwork for our rights as workers in America.

https://irle.ucla.edu/2025/04/28/may-day-history-significance/

Without unions, your boss could literally have you killed because you're not working.

Another example: the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

On March 25th, 1911, 144 workers were killed in a major fire. You want to know why they were killed? Their boss locked the exits on them, in an attempt to stop breaks and theft.

Owners Max Blanck and Isaac Harris were tried for manslaughter but acquitted, as it could not be proven they knew the doors were locked at that moment.

If they themselves locked the door, they knew for a fact that door was locked at that moment.

This led to the creation of the New York Factory Investigating Committee, who proceeded to perform thousands of safety checks on workplaces across the city. 1,836 factories and workplaces failed. But unfortunately nothing could be done because those hazards were not illegal. From no fire exits, to overcrowding of factory floors.

A new law mandating a maximum 54 hour work week for women and minors.

And over 30 safety laws were drafted and enacted in response to this situation. For example requiring fire suppression systems within factories, requiring outward swinging doors to prevent crowd crushes, requiring mandatory fire escapes.

And it is now a criminal offense to lock the doors.

Don't let the millions of dollars in anti-union propaganda fool you.

#here's the biggest thing to remember

It doesn't matter whether lunar X recognizes them or not, if they refuse to recognize, it will be put to a vote before the national Labor relations board. If that vote passes, this company has no choice but to recognize them.

#so let's empower them, and show our support

MORE UNIONS = MORE WORKER RIGHTS

#Recognize The Theorists Union, before you're legally forced to.

Well my dog taught himself a new trick, anyone have activities?

I live in Wisconsin. Where I'm at we have many many outdoor areas, nature areas, recreation, etc

I try to, at least once a week, get them out to DNR controlled Lands. AKA off leash time..

Gives them a chance to run around and sniff new things, gives me a chance to work on their recall, and word recognition.

Yesterday we were up north. We weren't particularly doing anything, just stopping at parks.

My little one, Duncan. He's about 15 lb, and less than a foot high. Maybe about a foot and a half 2 ft long. Chihuahua/terrier/Dachshund mix. He is also terrified of his own shadow. One of the reasons I give him off leash time, is to kind of help him gain some bravery.

We got out at an area that had a dock. No one was around, and it's pretty well hidden, I figured it would be a good chance to get him off leash.

He's sniffing around, running around having a good old time. He's not sure about going on the dock, for good reason, even I wouldn't attempt it.

So he's sniffing around the shores. My other one is not too far behind him.

I go to light a cigarette, went out of nowhere all I see is his tiny little ass disappearing into the water.

This little shit full on just jumped in the lake. Like cannon weiner style. I ran over to the shore, because he has never been in a lake. We were going to start doing some swimming this summer.

I get over to the shore, and he's about a foot and a half away from shore.

He's just nonchalantly doggy paddling back. He gets up on shore shakes himself out a few times looks at me wags his tail and starts running around.

Copper, my big one, is going nuts, barking, freaking out. He also has not been in the water.

Needless to say my mind was blown. This is absolutely not behavior I expected from him. The way this dog has acted his whole life, I would have never thought he would have gotten in the water. I'm not going to lie I was expecting issues this summer when we started going swimming. I can't even give him a bath without him trying to take my throat out. (Not literally)

I don't know whether he saw a fish or something, but it literally looked, as if we were swimming. Finding a clear spot, and jumping right in.

These two are actually my first dogs, I knew dogs swam, but I've never really did anything with dogs and swimming.

What are some activities that I can do with them? I know there's the obvious like fetch. Maybe some activities more towards shore for right now.

Each and every one of you are doing a great job today.

Today's one of the worst days in our industry. From church goers, to stuck up snobs crawling out of the woodwork.

I'm not even going to go into my normal spiel for holidays. There's no saving today.

Bite your tongue, throw on a smile, and keep your head down.

Ain't no one worth losing the job over.

Stay strong, it'll be over before you know it.

My hibiscus died. Here's a Pothos.

I highly doubt anyone remembers me, but the past few November's, I have been posting the progress of my hibiscus. She was the first plant I was actually able to grow, without killing. We may have had our ups and downs, but I loved her, and I like to believe that she loved me.

I have recently decided to take the plunge into gardening again lately. Kind of nervous, not sure if I'm ready for this kind of thing again.

But a man's got to do what a man's got to do.

I bought this pothos a month and a half ago. I had saved him from the evil clutches of Home Depot. Dirty Scoundrels.

This is his progress from 1 leaf, and a few inches, to this magnificent beauty. It's growing time is quite a difference than my hibiscus.

Probably this upcoming weekend, I will be building a small lattice. As I'm in an apartment, I cannot make his location permanent right now. But trust me I will be. I WILL HAVE MY JUNGLE DEN!!

The Roots were very compacted when I bought him, so right now I still have him in a loose soil mixture, funnily enough the same soil mixture that I used for my sweet girl. He has also taken a liking to her old planter. As you can see he is happily growing away.

In a way it's bittersweet. But I do truly in my heart believe that I will one day find gardening success again.

/Uj after an emergency pest situation, the pest control guy said the chemicals were safe. But when I found her she was partially knocked out of her pot. Nothing I did saved her. The asshole never even gave me a discount.

I haven't named him yet, any ideas?

Please read the bottom paragraph.

If you've already been approved, you're there to go and can disregard this. It's slow doing it one by one so I'm trying to streamline it so it's quicker.

Been a couple months since our last update.

Figured we'd take a few minutes.

#WE HAVE OFFICIALLY HIT 20K MEMBERS!!

We've come a long ways in the past year. I believe we were at like 13-14k, when I was brought on.

Bot posts are now to a minimum. No more having to check my phone every 20 minutes. As of now most of what's published from you guys, gets approved. I'm happy we all were finally able to get to this sub in the right place.

As you may have noticed, since my last update, certain rules have been clarified, so there should be no issue on what the term solicitation means.

Other than that, no issues with anyone following the rules.

A special shout out to the ones that have used the report feature, and have helped us get to this point.

In that vein I also want to thank the ones that post in good conscience. Comments and posts, communication, that is what makes everything work.

I also want to thank my fellow mod team, without y'all, I could not do this alone.

#Account Security

As of late there has been a rise in phishing attacks, against moderators. The goal of this fishing scam is to gain access to the accounts "data." In this instance they're getting access to the karma, the account age, and it's contributor score.

By having access to a large pool of karma, they are able to access some of the largest subs. Reddit uses a few different systems, but one of the main ones is cqs. This is contributor quality score. It is a scale on the likeliness that you are a bot.

With a new account, your cqs is automatically lowest, as you are a brand new account and they don't know anything about you. The more you use Reddit in good faith, don't post spam links, make legitimate comments, etc.. the more you use reddit, the more karma you get, the higher your cqs gets. Reddit is more confident that you are not a bot.

Most of the largest subs, have the strictest participation requirements. Hell I myself still can't post to certain subs. By having access to the highest cqs levels, the karma pool, and a long time since the account creation, they are able to bypass a lot of the large subs requirements.

Why you may ask? Why have we seen such a rise in bots/stolen accounts on Reddit? Well why else, money.

All the awards that you get here on Reddit, all have a monetary value tied to it. When you give an award, you get anywhere between $0.15 and $0.25.

When you run a bunch of stolen/bot accounts, those awards add up quickly. The dispersal amount is $10.

Now I want you to think of some of the largest subs you see on front page, and why you pretty much see the same things everyday. They are repost bots.

#Solutions?

Make sure 2fa is enabled.

Do not respond to unsolicited DMs.

Do not give out your password to anyone, also do not use the same password in too many places. I am also guilty of this.

So just for a rundown:

  1. Mods will never direct you off site for support.

  2. Reddit nor admins will never direct you off site for support.

  3. NEVER, EVER will they have you use discord or any other platform for support

  4. Any and all support is done on the Reddit domain.

  5. Reddit, will never tell you that a report was filed against you, unless they action you. Then the only thing they will say is either banned or suspended.

  6. They also will NOT let you know about any "investigations" they are doing against you, or any other user. This is purely a scare tactic.

#We as the moderators of this sub, will NEVER contact you in any other way besides modmail. Modmail is the ONLY way we will contact individual users.

---------------

Now that that's out of the way, what specials are you guys running this week?
