So it wasn’t because of Arachnophobia?

It was speculated that Capcom removed the spiders from the RE2 Remake due to the issue of arachnophobia effecting players.

I guess that would hold still true if they didn’t add a giant spider with hordes of spawn to RE9. Also, no arachnophobia feature either.

I’m not sure why we couldn’t have the spiders in RE2R but then we get one in RE9. I heard somewhere it was pretty difficult to animate spiders so maybe that’s the reason.

Still, since the new installments seem to be following the Remake games’ lore (hence the RE2R flashbacks in RE9), it doesn’t even make sense that there are spiders in Raccoon City.

Following this logic, if spiders weren’t there in RE2R then they theoretically shouldn’t be there in RE9.

I’m not even afraid of spiders but I really don’t see the use in adding a random spider boss to RE9 when they didn’t include them the first time around.

Honestly, I feel like the spider was only added to make Leon’s part somewhat scary after following up with Grace’s sections.

I feel like Leon’s arc is over

I love Leon just as much as the next person but I honestly wouldn’t be sad if RE9 was his last appearance.

Now aside from potentially an RE6 remake far into the future, I don’t really see the need for Leon to come back.

I mainly say this because it seems like Leon’s arc has come full circle by the end of RE9. Even in the bad ending it seems like Leon has fulfilled his own purpose. He just wanted to be able to save someone after being unable to during the outbreak in Raccoon City.

(Side note: I’m not really counting Sherry because according to the events of RE2 it is mostly Claire who saves Sherry. Despite this, Sherry never mentions anything about Claire in either RE6 or RE9 and credits Leon with having saved her instead. Still, I’m considering Claire her savior).

Even greater than that though, Leon didn’t only fulfill his personal goal but also put an end to Umbrella for good it seems. What I mean is that the conclusion of RE9 pretty much confirms that we will likely never revisit Raccoon City again and that any remaining units of Umbrella seem to have been destroyed.

So not only does Leon fulfill his own personal motivation but he also is able to find solace in the fact that he was able to end Umbrella’s operations for good, likely taking away some of the guilt he felt following the events of Raccoon City.

But lore aside for a moment, Leon also has some of the most appearances in the series — second to only Chris and Wesker I believe.

Recently, he has been a feature in many of the modern Resident Evil games and CG films.

Personally, I would really love to see a Remake game with Chris in it, as Chris is really the only main character who hasn’t been featured in a (modern) Remake game yet. I wouldn’t mind if we also got to see more of Jill and Claire as they have been gone for a while too.

Anyway, while Leon is definitely a fan favorite and probably Capcom’s biggest marketing tool at this point, I would really rather they end Leon’s character on a good note rather than continue to bring him back for nostalgia’s sake.
