I have been an engineer for about seven years now and I have this habit of noticing tiny technical details in everything whether it is a BIM model or a video game . I was running through the Tower the other day and I realized that the audio for your footsteps is surprisingly deep in this game . If you walk on a metal grate you get that specific hollow clank but if you move onto a solid plating area it shifts to a duller thud . It is one of those intentional details that most people probably ignore while they are rushing to grab bounties but as someone who deals with mechanical systems and material properties all day I really appreciate the work that went into the sound design here .

It is not just a generic footstep sound being pitched up or down either . You can actually hear the difference between thin metal and heavy reinforced concrete structures . I spent way too much time yesterday just walking back and forth near the hangar area testing it out and it is incredibly consistent across different zones . It is this kind of obscure and relevant detail that keeps me immersed in the world even after playing for years . It feels like the developers actually cared about the physics of the environment instead of just slapping a basic sound loop on the character model .

I have this terrible habit of opening my binance app every thirty minutes even when I know the market is absolutely sideways and nothing has changed since the last time I looked . It is like a digital tic at this point because I will be in the middle of a complex bim coordination meeting or just sitting on the couch with the cat and my thumb just automatically swipes to that folder . I am not even a day trader or anything I just have some usdt sitting there and a couple of long term positions but for some reason I feel like I need to monitor it as if my life depends on it .

What is even weirder is that I do the same thing with reddit karma and my post stats even though I know it literally does not matter in the real world . I can spend hours tweaking a persona or a script for a new account only to realize I have wasted a whole afternoon on something that provides zero actual value to my bank account or my career . I think it is just the dopamine hit of seeing numbers change or something but it is honestly exhausting to be this tethered to a screen for no reason . I tried deleting the apps for a weekend but I just ended up using the browser version on my laptop instead because the itch was too strong to ignore . I wonder if anyone else here has these specific digital rituals that they know are a total waste of time but they just keep doing them anyway because the brain needs that tiny hit of "activity" to feel productive .

I have been best friends with this guy since middle school and we have a long history of doing stupid pranks on each other. It has always been our thing so I thought I would do something memorable for the gift. I actually spent about 800 bucks on a high-end 65 inch OLED TV that he had been eyeing for months and it was sitting in my trunk the whole time. The plan was to bring in the empty box first and act like that was the whole gift. I put a small envelope inside with a 50 dollar bill and a note saying "Hope this helps with the cable bill." During the reception when they were opening some of the smaller gifts in a side room I brought the massive box in. My friend looked super excited at first because he recognized the brand but when he opened it and saw just the envelope and a bunch of packing peanuts his face just dropped.

Before I could even say "just kidding" or go grab the actual TV from my car his new wife started tearing into me. She called me a "cheap prick" and said I was trying to humiliate them in front of her family. My friend didnt defend me he just looked embarrassed and told me it was a "shitty time for a joke." I tried to explain that the real TV was literally ten feet away in the parking lot but she told me to just leave because I had "ruined the moment." I ended up driving home with the TV still in my trunk. Now he is ignoring my texts and she posted something on social media about "finding out who your real friends are." I feel like they completely overreacted especially since he knows how we joke around. I was literally going to bring the real thing in two minutes later. Am I the jerk for the timing of the prank or are they being way too dramatic about a gift they were actually getting?

TL;DR: I brought an empty TV box to a wedding as a prank and put $50 inside. I had the real $800 TV in my car ready to bring in but the bride flipped out and kicked me out before I could finish the joke.
