Hello everyone, I’m looking for advice regarding my workers’ compensation case in California.
My case has been ongoing for over two years. I initially had attorneys, but they were not very responsive, so I eventually switched representation. I was able to get a new attorney about a year ago, and they have been actively working on my claim since then.
About two months ago, after some disputes, my claim was finally accepted.
Unfortunately, my attorney unexpectedly passed away recently. Their firm does not currently have another attorney available to take over my case.
Since then, I have tried contacting multiple law firms, but most are unwilling to take over the case due to it already having prior representation and being mid-process. I understand their concerns, but I am now stuck and unsure what to do next.
I am currently waiting on TTD back pay and other benefits, and I am also dealing with financial hardship.
Some people have suggested going pro se (self-representation), but I do not feel capable of handling the case on my own due to the complexity and stress.
At this point, I’m looking for advice on:
• What options I may still have in this situation
• How to find an attorney willing to take over an active workers’ comp case midstream
• Or what steps I should take to make sure my case does not stall or get delayed further
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
