Upgrading from iPhone 16 — best DSLR under $500 for family, architecture & nature photography?
Ready to stop relying on my phone and invest in a real camera. Here's exactly what I shoot:
**Family:**
- Portraits and close-ups of kids
- Candid group family shots
- Vacation and cruise family photos
**Buildings & Architecture:**
- Churches, historic forts, plazas
- Landmark shots while traveling
- Detail shots of architecture
**Nature & Landscapes:**
- Ocean and waterfront scenery
- Sunsets
- Wide outdoor scenes
- Cruise travel — skylines and ports across the water (need real optical zoom, not digital)
**My criteria:**
- Budget: $500 or Below
- Portability: Doesn't matter at all
- Experience: beginner(willing to learn)
Leaning toward the **Nikon D3500 two lens kit** — 18-55mm for family/architecture/wide shots and 70-300mm for zooming into distant landmarks and ships from cruise decks.
Is this the right call for the variety of shots I take? And what accessories should I grab for shooting in beach and cruise environments? Should I choose another camera. Thanks
