where do grad students actually live? Looking for flatshare tips

Hey everyone! I just got into the MSc Mathematics & Finance at Imperial and I'm now trying to sort out accommodation.

I looked at the Grad Pad studios but they seem quite far from campus, and honestly I'd rather live somewhere closer to South Kensington. I'm open to either finding an existing flatshare with current students or teaming up with another incoming student to find a private apartment together.

A few questions for anyone who's been through this:

  1. Which neighbourhoods do you actually recommend for grad students near Imperial?

  2. Which websites/platforms do you use to find flatshares or teammates to rent with?

  3. Are there any Imperial-specific Facebook groups where incoming students coordinate on housing?

  4. When should I realistically start looking? Is it too early to start now (April/May for a September start)?

Would really appreciate any advice I m feeling a bit overwhelmed by London's rental market! Thanks in advance 🙏
