Medium vs medium light

I want to get a new rod but not sure what to get. So for some back story my first rod was a 6’6” ultralight and then my second was 5’6” medium light. Both were super cheap Walmart rods. I always thought i did better with the medium light but I always liked how far I can cast my spoons with the ultralight. My wife fucked up my line really bad on the medium light and I had to respool and I put 10 lb line on but the casting distance was significantly reduced so I’ve pretty much stopped using it and have since got a 4’6” ultra light that I love using for ultralight stuff and I feel like I want to do away with the 6’6” ultralight and switch to a medium light or medium rod for trout or bass. Im mainly asking because I went to Walmart and pretty much everything they had was a medium including a 6’6” ugly stik. I was also looking at a daiwa medium light online. This would almost specifically be used for throwing spoons for trout or possibly bass. Nothing that large where I’m fishing and I’ve caught plenty of 12-14 inch trout and 7-8lb bass and I’ve managed those just fine with my ultralights with 4lb line so I don’t think I need very heavy of line probably nothing more than 12? I also don’t want to have to buy all new lures, pretty much everything I throw is 1/4 oz. what do I get?

I’ve recently started trying to pay attention to the major/minor bite times of the solunar calendar and seeing how that compares to my actual fishing experience. I went camping earlier in the week for a few days and both nights I woke up around 3 am and fished because I just dont sleep well. This also happened to be at the start of a major bite time and the moon was out and pretty full and super bright. I was catching pretty good sized bass for my lake nearly every cast during this time. I was using a black/chartreuse trout magnet and same color beetle spin. Everything else I tried didn’t get a nibble. The weather has also been warming up and the day time bites have slowed down.

Did I just happen to fish during perfect conditions and I shouldn’t expect this experience again? Or is that how night fishing is? How much did the solunar calendar play into this? thanks!

I keep an ultralight set up with these on it and it’s a guaranteed skunk breaker. if the days not going well these things always catch a ton of bluegill for me. I’ve caught trout, bluegill, crappie, and bass on these things and they’re super easy to use.
