Hey guys,
I’ve got a Mutoh ValueJet 1624 that’s been sitting for quite a while (unknown exact timeframe, but definitely long enough that the ink system dried out).
I pulled the printhead and it’s heavily clogged with dried ink across all channels (pics attached). Machine itself is complete and was operational prior to sitting, but I haven’t powered it up yet because I don’t want to make things worse.
I’m trying to decide if this is:
A) Worth restoring
B) Worth having a tech look at
C) Better off selling/parting out
From what I understand, I’m likely looking at:
Printhead replacement
Dampers
Cap top
Possibly flushing/replacing ink lines
My questions:
Has anyone successfully revived a machine in this condition?
Is it worth the investment, or am I chasing a money pit?
Any techs in/around Northeast Ohio willing to take a look or quote a revival?
What would you realistically value this at as-is?
For context: I run a small sign shop (Akers Signs) and I’m trying to decide whether to bring more printing in-house or just move on and buy a known working unit.
Appreciate any honest input — not looking for sugarcoating, just trying to make the smartest call.
Thanks in advance.
