Dream academy has damaged all the girls reputations, and the fans cannot let go on how they acted in dream academy which happened 3 years ago.
First I will talk about the most impacted which is Manon. Manon scouted and came to join them later than most of the girls, she had come there with no experience with dance and no vocal training, and it was shown in the show that she did miss a few practices. She was chosen because of her captivating look and Hybe believed that she was a perfect look for the group. The girls felt hurt because she was not showing up to practice and she was doing well when they had shown her to the public because she is a very beautiful girl. Honestly I sympathize with the girls, because yes it might have been unfair that someone you seemed to have worked harder than was very popular and she also disadvantaged the teams that she was in and it wasn’t nice for the others. But when they spoke to her and the missions started, she did do well and did show up to the occasion. But up until today Manon gets painted as lazy and selfish and people still think that she’s missing practices, meanwhile it has been said by her and Lara that she’s always trying to practice and get everyone else to practice with her and not enjoying resting, but she’s still called lazy. Lara also said in a live that Manon is always pushing everyone to work harder, but she is still called lazy. She’s was unwell and not in the Gabriella dance video, she was not included in the video (but when the other girls were unwell they figured out how to include them in videos they were not apart of) and she was there the day they shit the video but still wasn’t added to it. Also in the seasons greetings they asked a question, what do you think are Manon’s best features it was a multiple choice question and choice B was “her selfishness” and choice C was “her laziness”. This was a publication released by her own company, it is obvious why the public sees her that way and it all stems back to Dream Academy.
Next I will be talking about Lara, she was also scouted and was picked because they believed that she had the vocal abilities to sell out stadiums. Which is true she has the most sweet voices. She did well in her missions, But what I found weird about Dream Academy was how they told her that she was too sexy at 17?! 17?! That she needed to tone it down. I found that extremely weird, like why was she told that? She was a child. What also impacted her is that she was shown being not so nice to Manon, which led to a hate train against her during their Asian tour in 2024. She got the worst and most disgusting, horrible, deplorable comments and a lot of them were so heavily racist I felt sick after reading them. She still gets hate like this up until today. She’s got this belief up until today that she’s some mean girl even though it seems like those girls buried the hatchet on what happened between them long ago. Which is sad.
Next I will speak on Daniella, she had a decent perception during dream academy which was that she was an amazing dancer but she was criticized about her facial expressions and also being boring. But she rose to the occasion and did well in all her missions. But how did Dream Academy affect her? She was looked at as one of the best dancers, but when it was time to show her true abilities, she’s been criticized for her dance performances as being “too much” and it stems back to dream academy where in the “Buttons” performance people outside criticized her for doing too much. Which has affected her up until today. Plus people making up in their heads that she wasn’t Latina because before all the missions she was blonde and they kept saying that “she wasn’t Latina because she admitted to being whitewashed” and she was told to dye her hair black she was unsure of it but she did it. People questioned her identity just because of that and also saying how she’s ethnically German and Italian which is common in white South American’s. These are things which people still criticize her about today which stem from Dream Academy.
Next, I will talk about Sophia, she was one of the first people in the program and she was looked at to be a responsible and respected trainee during those days. She was painted to be very serious and wanting it so bad. She also was seen to be apart of the people criticizing Manon and was the girl who directly shown confronting Manon. But of course she was received as a mean girl and up until today people perceive her as that.
Next I will talk about Megan was introduced as a great dancer and a great singer as well. She was very liked by the staff and she worked hard, though Megan was not perceived or as hated as the other girls, people still do think she was a mean girl because of her criticism of Manon in the documentary. She was not impacted as bad but because of recent events which are hearsay they are using dream academy which happened 3-4 years ago as their defense on her character. Which obviously goes back to Dream Academy.
Lastly I will talk about Yoonchae. You may wonder on why it affects her now, but they showed her as this little girl who was performing well but was kind of overlooked. But she did extremely well in all her missions and she did amazing. People in my opinion still over look her and believe that she’s just there to be a “Maknae” but I believe she’s really one of the more well rounded girls in Katseye. She is also heavily infantilized, but that is a conversation for another day, but all of this stems back to Dream academy.
My final words:
This is all perception on how these people want you all to view those girls. I do not believe it would just show their journey, but what to show you what to think about those girls. This is from my point of view and I believe all of them have progressed and become better teammates to one another from outside looking in perspective.
