for a young teen boy with frenemy problems

I am looking for a book for an 8th grader to help him navigate friendship issues. His “best” friend is really not his friend at all. Treats him like dirt, except for when he’s the friend of the week, which strings him along and keeps him thinking they are friends. A real mean girl queen bee type, but it’s a guy who plays football.

I’m hoping for fiction - something where he can relate to the story more than a book that doles out advice.

Is the complete inability for students to just calmly wait for a few minutes. Every minute, they have to have something TO DO. And they can’t handle the answer to just be quiet and patient for a couple of minutes. Even thought they are so often NOT on task, they must have a task assigned at all times. I swear, I just want to tell kids to stare at the wall sometimes! Like, that IS the assignment. Learn how to wait. Learn how to hold in whatever you feel you need to blurt out. Learn how to have a smidge of patience.

Today, with 4th graders, one of the tasks of the day only needed about 5 minutes, and the first finishers could not handle the idea that they should just wait for everyone else to catch up, and then we’d discuss. Just a couple of minutes, and they expect an assignment…. That then they probably won’t do!!

The need to be entertained and/or scheduled is really hurting these kids.

Vent over, thank you.

I have a favorite that I want, but, they are hard to come by in my budget. It happens, but I’ve yet to be first in line to get it. In the meantime, I’d like to try more in the same vein. I went test driving yesterday and it took so damn long.

1st dealership had zero of the model I’m interested from their make. Their website had several listed, but I missed the “in transit / on order” fine print. Wasted time. The 2nd had me do a LOT of talking and looking at what they wanted to show me, before test driving. The third was quicker, but still, this took up an entire day. I can mark the 3rd off my list, so that’s progress… but I didn’t have the heart to go again today. I live pretty far from most dealers too, and have to pay a toll to get over there. The dealership dance is so draining.

Is there a better way?

Currently car shopping as I expect mine to die at any minute. Husband will be taking out the loan because his FICO score is excellent and his income is higher than mine. We JUST paid off his truck 2 years early. I assumed we should wait for that to reflect on his credit report, but then today I read that it will drop his score for a few months since it was his only installment loan.

Is that accurate and if so, should we try to get the next loan going before the payoff is reflected on his reports? My goal is to get the best rate possible.
