Questions from an overwhelmed newcomer!

Hey y’all! Been super excited to play this game since before release, but i have procrastinated by playing dark souls 3 and another (fastish) playthrough of elden ring before getting over the new game anxiety and downloading CD.

ANYWAYS:

im about 8 hours in, just started chapter 2 and have explored a little bit to get the hang of things a little. The combat right now feels so hard after coming from the super simple dynamics in elden ring (dodge at the right time and hit at the right time) and i just cant seem to get into a flow. I find myself just button mashing rn and rt and end up killing everyone anyways right now but im just tanking hits and healing and don’t feel good.

ANYWAYS AGAIN here are my questions:

Any tips for making combat feel a little more flowy? Specific combos or skills to stick to? Does armor actually matter or is it more about looking cool? My character seems to draw my sword abysmally slow and so when i dismount my horse i take a couple hits before i can start swinging; is this normal?

Thank you guys sorry for the rant i just don’t know anyone in person to talk to about this. Love the world and the graphics are good enough for xbox series x, so i’m trying to really lean into the mechanics instead of fighting them i just cant figure it out. Feels like playing Oblivion for the first time! Came across some guy under a carriage and he needs me to take his wife some cloth, but i got distracted and ended up stabbing through a wall and found a cloak that’s a dog head. I’m enjoying the game so far; it just feels clunkier than i expected.

Shortoff to Table Rock in a day

My buddy and I did this the other day :-) Loved every second. Lots of hard ups into hard downs and then back up. My joints are still feeling it a bit today, but overall i’m not too sore! Art Loeb in a day coming soon (maybe idk)
