Hi lovely people. I took Bluebell to the vets today as she developed boobs which she keeps licking, her belly is a bit swollen and she is really tired. She is making nests of blankets in the corner of the room and is just not her normal chirpy self. The vet did an abdominal scan as she is also drinking a lot, off her food and vomiting in the morning. She wanted to rule out pyometra. She found that Bluebell has hydrometra and a thickened lining on her uterus. She said that everything looks like she has a pretty strong case of false pregnancy and that I need to bring her back in if she actually starts lactating or shows signs of infection. I was told to take away the things she is nesting with and increase play and exercise. I didn’t ask obvious questions like how long will this last? Will she go into labour? Will this happen every season? Has anyone else has a pup go through this. She is only 9 months old. She had a really hard first season as she had a split season where she bled and then failed to ovulate so she bled again 3 weeks after the first bleed ended. I feel so bad for her.

I asked for advice following a difficult transition having my daughter’s boy Bear back after my girl Bluebell had a lengthy stressful heat cycle. I can now happily tell you all normality has resumed. It took a day of Bluebell needing to be removed and then brought back as she was not feeling happy about him back in her space and sharing her toys. By the second morning she taking him toys and snuggling him like they hadn’t been apart.
