She was so happy after her pre op was over

Took her for her pre-op a couple days ago in order to see if she was eligible to be spayed, only to be told she's too fat for it, on the way to the vets she was all whiney, and afterwards she was all smiles 😅

Does puppyhood get better?

My husband and I picked up our 11 week old puppy on Saturday and we’re feeling so defeated. He’s adorable and we love him but he’s an absolute menace. I started out with a kennel inside a playpen with toys and a fresh patch since the breeder litter trained them on her farm. He hated the bars of the playpen and screamed when he couldn’t see us so after blocking off all the areas he could squeeze into we took away the pen and now he can free roam which he seems to like more. I can’t get him to sleep in the crate. I’ve tried laying on the floor with him so he knows I’m there but he cries and screams. He’s been sleeping in our bed because we can’t stay up all night listening to him scream and we are in an apartment so the neighbors can hear. I work from home and had my first day back at work since getting him. He’d played in my office for an hour and then ask for me to pick him up and nap in my arms for 2 then wake up and repeat. He won’t sleep anywhere else but on me which hinders me from working. We’re absolutely exhausted and feel so bad that we’re just not completely enjoying having him here because we do love him so much and waited so long to get him. I did my research on the breed before choosing a breeder but I feel like I underestimated what I was signing us up for. I guess I just needed a place to vent and see if others have felt the same way and if it gets better. Any advice would be amazing.

Why does my dachshund keep peeing on his new cooling bed? 😭

I just bought my dachshund a cooling summer bed, but after peeing on it once, he keeps peeing there again even after I cleaned it with enzyme cleaner.

What confuses me is that he never pees on the blanket he’s used since he was little.

Why does this happen? And what should I do? 🥲

Our Doxie's fave toy and also a pacifier?

This is my boy's favorite toy. The monkey from Ikea. It also seems to serve as his pacifier, a big one at that. He sometimes falls asleep while doing this. Also never fails to bring the toy into our bedroom when its bedtime.

What are your babies favorite toys? And please tell me my dog's not the only one who does this. 🤣

Spry and Sassy, Margot’s turning 16! Should we get her a Lambo or Rrari? What’s a good first car for a dachshund?

Margot has been on quite some adventures over the last 16 years. Born in Texas, she became my wife’s partner-in-crime as she finished her residency. They both moved to Tokyo, Japan, in 2013, where I met them both and joined the gang In 2016, we all moved to Alaska. While Margot isn’t a huge fan of the snow, she is a huge fan of snow’s byproduct- fireplaces and warm blankets. Margot’s next big adventure will be getting her driver’s license!

Welcome to the world, Sugaree!

2 weeks with my sweet girl! Carrying on my dad’s tradition of Grateful Dead dog names ⚡️ She sure shakes that tail!! She’s such an angel, even when she’s not. She thinks she’s sooooo big and bad 😂 And yes she is stubborn AF. Her training is going so well so far though.

First-time poster, first-time Doxie owner… where are all these "bad traits" people warned me about?! (Plus, show me your weiners!)

Hey everyone! First-time poster here.

Before I took the plunge and got my boy, I did a ton of research on dachshunds. A lot from reddit as well. I read all the warnings about their negative traits, stubbornness, and potty training nightmares, but I figured the good would outweigh the bad.

The only thing is... I see literally no bad? 😅 I have a miniature Dachshund, purchased about 2 hours away in Montreal, Quebec.

Don't get me wrong, we had a tiny bit of resource guarding to deal with at the very beginning, but we nipped that in the butt right away using positive reinforcement. Since then, it’s been absolute smooth sailing:

  • Crate Training: He’s completely crate trained. At night, he sleeps in a crate right by my bed with his big fluffy dog bed. Sometimes I allow him in my bed as well, but half the time I wake up and he's in the crate beside my bed. During the day while I'm at work, he hangs out in a crate fit for a Great Dane so he has plenty of room for activities. (I only work 3 minutes away, so he’s only ever left alone for 4 hours at a time tops!).
  • Potty Training: I used strict positive reinforcement for house training. We had very minimal accidents between 10 weeks and 6 months. He is and has been 100% completely house trained. He is 1 year and 1 month old currently.
  • Destruction (or lack thereof): He knows exactly what toys are his and doesn’t chew anything else. He has a toy bin to retrieve his toys, and there are plenty of variety for him.
  • Socializing & Barking: He absolutely loves other dogs. Yes, he does bark, but pretty much only when he is protecting his home. When we are out and about around town, he’s quiet. But if you come near our house? You’d think we have a large dog standing guard! I will say, he is judgy with some people, but I believe dogs can sense a person's character.

I honestly think that with lots of time, effort, and LOVE, dachshunds are hands-down the best choice. I am just so incredibly in love with him. I wanted to post a bit of positivity here because before I got him, I heard so many horror stories about how stubborn they are with potty training, barking, and chewing. I have had zero issues. He is quite literally the best dog ever.

To anyone on the fence about looking to buy one: do it. You won't regret it.

Tax in the comments, now show me your weiners!!! 👇🏼

My best friend and Fig adore each other. She stopped by when I wasn’t home earlier, and sent me this photo. Fig never gives us the belly like this 😆

meet Daisy Lou!! cream piebald potato 🌼

Picked her up Sunday :) After 3 years, Dottie Mae finally gets a sister. She’s been a little sulky not having all the attention now but it’ll be better once Daisy grows a bit more and I feel comfortable with them playing together.

Also: actually crate training this time and holy crap it’s a godsend. She’s doing so well!!

jealous lil ween

My girl Penny gets so jealous of my other girl, Ivy. Ironically we had Ivy before we got Pen. We have another doxie and another female cat and she’s not jealous with them. Only Ivy!

Shes mad in this pic because my hand is on Ivy and not her… as if she wouldn’t be in my skin if she could be. 🙄😂🤍
