So I just finished my A/Ls in the commerce stream (BS-A, ACC- C, ICT- S) and I’m trying to figure out the smartest path into a proper marketing career without doing a full-time internal degree.

I’ve been looking at two routes:

Route 1 — Kelaniya path:

Start with the Diploma/HND in Marketing from Kelaniya’s DMM department (external), then move into the BBM General external degree at Kelaniya, and eventually do a top-up Honours somewhere.

Route 2 — Straight OUSL:

Just go directly into the BMS Honours in Marketing Management at OUSL and grind through it on weekends.

My questions:

1.	Is the kelaniya DMM brand name worth the longer route? Like do employers in SL actually care that it says “Kelaniya” on your cert?

2.	The Kelaniya external BBM is a General degree — no marketing specialization. OUSL gives you a dedicated Honours in Marketing. Which looks better on a CV to a local corporate employer?

3.	Is the quality of learning/content actually better at Kelaniya DMM compared to OUSL’s management faculty?

4.	Has anyone done the Kelaniya Dip → HND → BBM path and then topped up? How long did the whole thing realistically take?

5.	For someone wanting to go into brand management or digital marketing in Sri Lanka, which route gave you better opportunities?

Would really appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually gone through either path, or anyone working in HR/marketing who’s seen both on a resume. 🙏
