PS Vita 2000 Water Damaged - No Display but has Audio, Crashes on Sleep Mode (Kernel Panic?)
Hi everyone, I recently picked up a used PS Vita 2000 for a project. It has some history of water damage, and the previous owner already cut the EMI shielding over the SoC/RAM area (presumably to clean or inspect it). I’ve cleaned the board with 99% IPA, but I'm facing these specific issues:
No Display/Backlight: The screen is completely black. I’ve tried the flashlight test (shining a light on the screen), but there’s no visible image.
Audio/Touch Works: I can hear the menu music and the "click" sounds when I scroll or touch the screen, so the OS is definitely booting.
Charging Issue: When charging while the device is ON, the LED stays orange for a bit, then turns green, then back to orange if I re-plug it.
Sleep Mode Crash: This is the weirdest part. When I press the Power button to put it into sleep mode, the green LED flashes for about 20 seconds, turns solid green for 5 seconds, and then the whole system shuts down completely.
What I've tried:
Cleaned the motherboard and connectors with IPA.
Inspected the SoC area; there was some orange oxidation (rust) near the edges of the shielding cuts, but I’ve scrubbed most of it off.
The system boots into the OS (I can hear the music), but it won't stay in sleep mode.
Is this a known hardware failure? Could a shorted LCD be causing the kernel panic/crash during the sleep transition, or is the PMIC/SoC likely toasted due to the previous water damage?
Would appreciate any advice before I decide to buy a replacement motherboard or screen. Thanks!
