Not looking for legal advice, but I'm having trouble finding the law that applies.

I'll keep it short.

I'm in North Carolina. Over the last 20 years I've seen an small island in a river go from 50 feet by 30 feet, to now approximately 300 feet by 1000 feet, and from what I can tell, it has no ownership, due to erosion and flooding. Is there a way to claim this land. From my understanding the property lines are to the center of the river on each given side. I understand getting g to it without crossing private property may be an issue, but I'm just curious.
