I thought my original HDD had completely died but on a whim I put it back in the original PS4 and tried a few different things.

The steps I took to get it working were this:

• Put the HDD in, try Rebuilding Database, if it doesn’t work -

• Start up in Safe Mode, update PS4 version using the internet

• Let it Rebuild in Safe Mode once it turns back on (this took a lot longer than usual).
