I am looking to build my own e-bike, since I like a fun project, and I want something I can service. I’m 90% sure I want a mid drive, and am about pretty sure I want it to be a torque sensing motor, since I want to pedal and get some exercise, but it seems like if I want a reliable motor, I’d have to go with one of the two Bafang units. Are the TSDZ8 or 16 reliable? How about the Toseven Dm01, or the CYC Photon Gen 2? I am not against shelling out the cash for the CYC if it’s reliable, but haven’t seen enough data to determine that. I know the first gen had some issues. What’s everybody’s opinion on a good mid drive? Am I putting too much emphasis on torque sensing? Can I get a good workout with a cadence sensing motor?
