Recently, I decided that I should make some more friends here in NYC, and IG served me up some friend-making groups. I chose one that looked cool and chose to attend a craft night. There were only about 5 other people there (I chose a smaller event on purpose, as I'm very shy), and as we talked, it came out that I talk about being childfree on TikTok. The organizer of the event, a 25 year old mother to an 18 month old, said to me, "Just don't be surprised when you meet the right person and you change your mind. That happens sooooo often."
Since I was literally there to make friends, I didn't respond the way I wanted to, just kind of shrugged and let the moment pass. Not that it excuses the comment, but I think the organizer thought I was younger than I am and assumed that I was in my mid twenties like her. Unfortunately for her, and my alleged future "right person", I'm 36 and and have been sterilized for almost 5 years. No babies will come from me, and my "right person" won't want kids either.
