This year’s commonwealth day luncheon carried a distinctive West African presence with the attendance of His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom (Nigeria), and His Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse of the Ga (Ghana).

Prince Simeon Hassan of Bulgaria, grandson of HM Tsar Simeon II, months of intensive martial arts training at the historic Shaolin Monastery in Dengfeng, China.

Simeon has immersed himself in the demanding routines of traditional kung fu, a discipline that blends physical mastery with spiritual focus and mental resilience.

His parents, Princess Kalina and explorer diplomat Kitin Munoz, visited the monastery last April to support their son as he prepared to settle into the rigorous daily life of the temple.

Simeon began practicing martial arts as a child in Morocco, where the family lived for several years. His talent quickly became evident.

At just 16, he earned recognition for excelling in the renowned Taekwondo Hanmadang Championship.

Training among the Shaolin monks, Simeon is working to deepen his understanding of the philosophical foundations of kung fu.
