Probably the UltraMillionth post complaining about Flesh Prison

"Oh boy, now that I'm done P-ranking Act 1 (and 0-5), I can't wait to suffer at the hands of Minos"

The humble Flesh Prison:

Worst bossfight I've ever experienced. I understand that UltraKill is a brutal game, but hinging the success of a fight off of your proficiency to Core Nuke and/or splitcoin and/or quickdrop one of the tankiest bosses in the game is abysmal design. I'm okay at video games if the Pantheon of Hallownest has anything to say about things, but simply on Standard this boss makes me want to throw my computer out a window more than anything else I've experienced. Glyphid Hiveguards, Glyphid Stingtails, Trial of the Fool, Absolute Radiance, Path of Pain, the Flea Games, Nyleth, Father of the Flame, Mettaton. Deerclops. 4-S. Rage inducing, but never have I felt helpless. If I keep fighting Absolute Radiance, I'll win eventually. Hell, I beat Gabriel 1 and 2 Parry only for shits and giggles. But Flesh Prison makes me feel helpless.

As far as I know, there is no casual-friendly OP quickdrop for this boss. My attempts to Railcoin were entirely ineffective, I'm not sure how you would +Conductor, Drill parrying only scratches the healbar. The Nailgun would be highly effective, except it has 50% nail (and saw, and electical) damage resistance. Stacking timestop rockets at the start only does so much. Fire isn't exactly going to do much.

And then the orbs. Explosions like the Knuckleblaster, Core Ejects, and standard Malicious shots simply don't have the AOE to kill enough of them in the limited time. Splitcoining is difficult while not practiced and on the run from XXXL Virtue beams and a black hole, same with 1. Charging and firing Core Eject, 2. Pulling out the railcannon, aiming and swapping to Malicious, and firing withing the half second the Core Eject is in the air. I have managed to pull this off once, only for me to simultaneously fail to swap to Malicious and miss the Core in the next cycle, allowing the boss to back from 25% health to full.

You have fifteen seconds to kill ten/twelve miniscule, airborne, and spread out targets, while dealing damage to the boss, and dodging a hellstorm of Virtue beams and a black hole. At least the Hellseeker orbs aren't a problem, as you can parry them en mass for healing and decent damage. If you don't kill the orbs? TEN PERCENT HEALING PER. If you miss three of them that is an entire third of the healthbar recovering. If you miss half of them, that's half or more of the entire healthbar recovering. If you focus on damage and ignore the orbs, that's the entire hard-fought health bar recovering. THE ENTIRE THING.

The boss heals? Oh, that makes it a more serious fight. The boss heals the entire god damn health bar every fifteen seconds if you don't pull out that one specific difficult tech, while dodging a CHAOS worth of attacks and still needing to deal heavy damage to the boss? I'm fucking out, I'd rather do P5 again than this shit. Hell, I'd rather go back and try Undyne the Undying again. At least she doesn't heal.

Oh, and that isn't even the main boss of the level.

At this point P-2 looks more appealing, although I'm sure I would regret saying that if I could P-rank 4-3 (no style?).

Gabriel, the Apostate of Hate.

So, ladies and gentlemen, smash or pass?

By the Father, this guy took fifty minutes to beat Parry Only. It is hard to express how good it felt to parry those backshots.

That's how one could expect a first attempt to go.

I later beat him Parry only, fun as hell.

I say this as I finish my... sixth playthrough? With three Silksong 100%'s as well? My first playthrough was on Keyboard, and I got 110%. I think I skipped Colo 3 and P4, and beat PV once in the Hall of Gods. In my second playthrough, I got Colo 3 and P4 (first try, somehow). I think I also did Path of Pain then. My third playthrough was in Steel Soul, and with a lot of quitouts I got 100% and Steel Heart. My fourth playthrough was with a controller, and I likely got 112%. Then came two back to back Silksong playthroughs, both 100%. My fifth playthrough was another Steel Soul run, and with a total of two non-combat quitouts and two more in Colo 3, I got to 112% in 15 hours. Then spent seven hours beating P5—and getting All Achievements. This was followed by a third Silksong almost-100% (I didn't feel like getting a couple final items). Finally, a sixth playthrough. I decided to return to Keyboard because why not, and my self-imposed challenge? No Wayward Compass. Horrible, I know. Either way, I beat GPZ and Colo 3 first try (a new best), and then beat P1-4 back to back first try. Shown in the video is my rather solid Pure Vessel fight—if you can call only two hits taken "solid". Finished with 111%, as I never bought Wayward Compass from Iselda. Oh, and I died about twice. In total. To Dream Bosses (Lost Kin undergeared, and Failed Champion). I could have done Steel Soul without sweating, basically.

Time to go play UltraKill I guess, I might be ready.
