"Now remember, look off to the side - everyone else will be looking right at the camera. And then I'll do one!"

("sigh... dad is soooooo weird....")

"Not too heavy!"

Ma'am, you have a 12 pack box of sodas, a whole watermelon, and ten large cans of Progresso soup.
Do you want to eat some of this stuff before it goes into the (paper, poorly made) bags? 🤣🤣

Making me laugh every time it plays in the store...

We're having a sale on a certain fish this week, and when they recorded the announcement they really should have asked the lady who voiced the ad to use more enunciation on the name, as 'Bring home some Black Cod this weekend' sounds quite different over the speakers than I think they intended. She says it a few times through the ad, always the same way, with the extremely soft 'D' at the end (ironically, lol.)
Whenever it plays I sneak a quick glance around and enjoy that some of our customers are hearing what I am too, the 'wait - WHAT?' looks on a few of the faces are making a normally mundane day much more entertaining. That it's Mother's Day weekend makes it even better ;-)

Enjoy your day today, fellow retailers, however you can!

It's funny; I had a bit of an anxiety attack last night thinking about this job I'd always considered to be temporary. For most of that time the person in charge of pickup orders wanted me on her team but I'm a fast and mostly friendly/pleasantly chatty cashier and I kept getting NOT USED as an order shopper. I understand why - good cashiers are tough to find and I figured if I were in charge I'd want to keep me right where I've been. Today a friend told me that the newest manager said I seemed 'frustrated' and put the kibosh on me doing anything else despite the fact that shopping orders is pretty much a perfect match for my knowledge of inventory and attention to detail.

I think this is ridiculous and as I was not 'officially' told about the new manager's comment I have zero recourse. But at least I know that if I don't leave, I'm going NOWHERE; chained to a cash register with an unending stream of increasingly clueless customers that are getting increasingly frustrating to deal with - fucking brilliant logic, management.

(The new manager seems to have a small group of favorite employees that turn into a party when working; more laughing and sharing funny phone things than doing actual work. Hmmm, perhaps that might be 'frustrating' to an outsider constantly looking for something that needs doing? There are theories about this among the staff and some management and they're not pretty; let's just say people that share similar backgrounds tend to band together. Were I younger it might be worth pursuing with the corporate higher-ups/union, but I'd rather just get out and let them laugh while the store is more and more a mess, with overflowing trash cans on the selling floor and unwanted raw chicken sitting out waiting for someone, anyone, to return it to the refrigerated section on a regular basis. Frankly, it's like working in a bus station.)

I have a customer who wants me to contact them about potential work; they're a director in an educational services program that has me salivating. I'd been waiting until the spring holidays were over to get in touch, and I think it's finally time to actually do it. My brain is rotting from my time in the supermarket (where I will never shop once I'm out - I like chicken but not if it might kill me.)

Thanks for reading this novel and good luck to all who might be in similar situations. You have favorite customers, just casually admit that you'd like to find something better - there will be one, or more, who understand you and want to help if they have a possible better situation available.
