Do we do mixed brand sets here?

I've lived around the corner from the Eisbach wave in Munich for years and always put off going down there with a camera. It's one of those spots you see every day and think — yeah, I'll do that properly someday.

Then it was closed for about a year following a tragic incident (rest in peace 😔), and suddenly that someday felt a lot more real. While it was closed I kept thinking about how to approach a spot that has been photographed by millions of people since the 70s. How do you bring anything new to it?

When it finally reopened, I brought E V E R Y - THING. My Fuji with the 33mm, 56mm, and 70-300mm lenses, and my Leica Q3 28mm. I wanted to see how the different focal lengths would tell different stories of the same wave, and I think the combination actually works. The longer end gives you compression and drama, the wider end puts you right in the action. Shots #2,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 18 & 20 are on Leica, the rest on a Fuji XT4.

Which brings me to the question in the title: is a mixed brand set okay to post here, or should I keep it Fuji-only going forward? Happy to split them up in the future if that's the preference. Curious what you all think!

Eisbach Wave, Munich: Got the Q3 wet so you don't have to.

The Eisbach wave is one of the most photogenic spots in Munich. After a year of being closed, it's finally legal again. I live around the corner and tried to give it my best shot with my Q3 (and a Fuji XT4 — you can find the whole set with mixed camera pics on my Instagram: nickpic if you're curious).

I got as close to the water as possible, the camera got wet a couple of times, and hoped the 28mm would make the shots feel like you're right there in the action.

Curious if that actually comes across or if it just looks like I should have just taken a zoom lens instead?

Eisbachwelle is legal and back in action!

For the past year I've been walking my dog along the Eisbach almost every day, watching the empty wave and waiting. As a hobby photographer, it was genuinely painful to walk past one of the most photogenic spots in Munich and not be able to shoot it properly.

Now that the wave is legal again and the surfers are back, I finally had my moment. Spent a few sessions down there with my camera — here are 20 shots from the first days back.

I've been walking around Munich with a camera since losing my job recently, and I genuinely had to stop and ask myself where I was.

Every April, for roughly two weeks, Munich transforms into something that looks completely impossible for Germany. What most people don't know: the cherry trees in Olympiapark are 54 years old and they came from Japan. They were a gift from the city of Sapporo for the 1972 Olympics. Munich hosted the Summer Games. Sapporo hosted the Winter Games. The trees have been blooming here ever since. I love that back story!

Fun fact: Munich gifted Sapporo a Maibaum in return which apparently stands in the city centre.

If you follow this sub, you might have seen my last post about the cherry blossoms at the Westfriedhof bus stop — that one was picked up by Süddeutsche Zeitung today, which genuinely took me by surprise. What's interesting is that the two locations bloom at different times: Olympiapark goes first, usually early April. By the time the last petals fall there, Westfriedhof is just getting started. So if you time it right, you can chase the blossom across the city for almost the entire month.

I bought a Leica recently and now can only afford taking the bus. I took some photos at a bus stop in Munich and people said this belongs here.

Every year, for roughly 2 weeks in mid to late April, cherry trees bloom in front of an old building at the bus stop Westfriedhof in Munich and it looks completely surreal. I've lived here for years and only just discovered it. The kind of thing that makes you wonder how an ordinary public transport stop can look like this.

It made me wonder: Is this Germany's most beautiful bus stop right now?

Hello investment bankers, trust fund kids and fellow broke gear addicts.

Some of you might remember me — I'm the guy who made the financially questionable decision to buy a Leica Q3, got laid off, and had to cancel Japan.

Turns out Leica accessories are expensive, and so is gas. Hence, I've been taking the bus instead. I did discover that Munich has one genuinely ridiculous bus stop — and it looks like it has absolutely no business being that beautiful. So I got off the bus and captured what I saw.

Shot on Q3 28mm. The pics with flash were shot on my Fuji XT4.

Feedback very welcome!

Some of you might remember my post from a few weeks ago about the cherry blossoms in Olympiapark. Same guy, still in Munich, still not in Japan.

This time I want to share something I only discovered recently, even though I've lived here for years: the bus stop at Westfriedhof. Every year, for roughly 2 weeks in mid to late April, the cherry tree bloom, and it looks completely surreal! The kind of thing that makes you stop and wonder how you've walked past it your whole life.

A few practical notes if you want to go: Go in the morning. I went in the evening as well, and the light is simply not the same. Morning gives you that warm, soft glow that makes the whole scene feel almost unreal. Evening is still nice, but morning wins easily.

Getting there: there is parking around, but honestly... take the bus! Lines 151, 164, 165, and 180 all stop at Westfriedhof.
