Tonsilectomy and adenoidectomy improved behavior in child?
My son (4B) has “adhd symptoms”. Impulsivity, hyper, lack of attention\focus, outbursts, difficulty playing with others, can’t sit still even to eat, anger etc. I’ve struggled with him throughout the years. At the same time, he’s so smart, gross motor skills are through the roof, happy, and lovable. But I can’t help but think my parenting experience is different than others. Harder..it’s very hard to get him to listen to me and behave in public. I’ve suspected adhd for a while. I brought it up to his pediatrician to be evaluated. As well as asking his preschool teachers. Both don’t seem majorly concerned and want to wait for evaluation. However is pediatrician pointed out his large tonsils and referred us to ENT. He does have sleep apnea, loud snoring, sometimes choking or gasping. and the ENT wants both tonsils and adenoids removed. He said both are blocking his airway clear as day. Scheduled for next week. I talked to his pediatrician about behavior again and she said that tonsils and adenoid removal have actually helped these “adhd” type of symptoms in patients she has and wants to see how his behavior improves for a few months after the procedure before referring for an evaluation. I had no idea these things could be connected. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anyone have similar kiddos and have noticed change in behavior? Any insight welcome. Thank you
