I am the maid of honor in my best friend wedding and this is about her mother in law. Not my story but I was given permission to write about it. This is my first Reddit post so bear with me.
So a bit of backstory MIL (unknown age) is a boy mom through and through. Bride (23) has been with groom (25) for 4 years. MIL is an alcoholic narcissist who is hell bent on the fact the bride had turned her son against her.
Okay so the MOB (momma) and I were in charge of the bridal shower. (brides dad is out of the pic) momma need help so I stepped up to the plate. Well lo and behold MIL believed it was her right to throw the bridal shower because she only has sons (even though it’s literally the MOB’s job) momma is a single mother and Bride if her only child. She damn well is going to throw this party.
The entire lead up the party was absolute chaos. We started planning in November and have everything booked by January(catering, venue, ect.) Well by February MIL decided she didn’t like the theme or the venue or the food selection. So she called Momma and pretty much told her “I know you can’t really afford this all so I’ll handle it don’t you worry.”
We shut that down so fast. So finally bride was like just give her something to do to make her feel useful. Okay no worries we can definitely do that.
So now invites have gone out and the one job we gave MIL is literally the focal point of the entire shower (it goes with the theme and is literally on the invite). She said she ordered the thing in January, well she did not. She decided to change it and wing it on everything. We said absolutely now and I would cover it if she doesn’t figure it out.
Everything got figured out but she called momma and bride crazy and that they’re extremely controlling. Anyways bridal shower is here and we’re all dreading on if she’s gonna show or not.
She shows up… she’s full of attitude and is rude to everyone on the brides side.
There’s a game we play called “who is it” essentially all the guests write a memory on the paper and I read it out loud and the bride has to guess who it is. Well I went to all the guests to collect their sheet so we can start the game and I want to the MIL and she literally says “I’ve had enough memories of this shower already I’m not writing one.” Ewww gross behavior. Anyways I told mommas best friend and she was talking about how whenever momma walked past MIL she would stop talking and stare. She also pointed momma out to a lot of MIL’s friends too.
Anyways shower is over and when bride confronted MIL about this she SCREAMED at her calling me a liar and everyone else. And now the bride is second guessing literally everything. And I’m pissed because she’s literally manipulating her.
Would I be the asshole if I messaged her and mother fucked her.
