Hi all,
I have a 2019 Golf R and it developed a leak so I had the water pump/ thermostat housing replaced about 4-5 weeks ago.
Immediately after the replacement, upon arriving home the low coolant light came on and there was almost no coolant in the reservoir tank and I was told that this is because of air in the system and to top it up over the next few days.
Everything was fine but I could still really smell hot coolant after even a 15 minute drive when parking up and level still dropping, when I asked the garage they said it has been pressure tested so there was no leaks and probably just air still.
I replaced the coolant cap just in case aswell.
Just over the last few days the level has dropped again, by about 3mm (checked when cool)
What should I check now? Surely it’s not still air in the system after about 250 miles since having the work done.
The smell is like fresh hot coolant and that’s the thing that’s bothering me more than anything, there’s no smoke from the exhaust and heaters get hot so I’m stumped
