Root treated the wrong tooth today

Literally feeling the lowest I’ve ever felt. I’m newly qualified…

Pt came in showing me pain on a specific tooth, percussion tested it and it was positive.

On the electrical pulp test he said he felt it a bit and the tooth next to it too. Did a PA found a RL on the tip and I was like okay RCT one canal should be straight forward.

As I was accessing the canal there was blood and it wouldn’t stop, and the pt felt a bit of pain. We started running out of time so I just filled it with CaOH2 and temp filled it.

I was so goddam focused on achieving the right steps and doing everything perfectly but yeah turns out it was the wrong tooth. At the end when I saw the xray.

I feel truly awful - tmr my boss is going to do the RCT on the actual right tooth tomorrow and I’ll have to profusely apologise to the pt. Planning on explaining the consequences of treating the wrong tooth and obviously not charging him anything.

I’ll be lucky if he doesn’t take me down the gutters and complain.

Honestly just feel like I’m not made for this, feel so terrible to put the patient through this too. It was a total oversight on my part and I should have checked the x-ray.

Am I the worst dentist ever 😭
