Mom wants to talk to a “professional” about my transition, suggestions ?
I realized I was transmasc when I was in 6th grade, and when I was doing research about coming out I noticed a lot of things saying it was hard for parents to understand since they didn’t have as much time to think everything through like we do. Me being the little idiot I was thought this meant if I told her I was questioning my gender, she could help me figure it out and it wouldn’t be so hard on her later. Well, lo and behold, she said I was going through a phase and she “was also a tomboy at my age.”
Fast forward 9 years and 14 coming-out attempts later, she still does not accept me. After moving out of town and starting my medical transition, I had to bite the bullet and tell her she can either love me for me or I can’t surround myself with her. It’s just not healthy for me.
We didn’t talk after that for a few days, but then she sent me a long ChatGPT written text basically saying she wants to talk to a professional to get her to understand better. Which is progress, and I’m honestly really happy for her growth in that aspect. Except I have no idea where to find these resources. I’ve tried a simple google search but I’m just scared some of these orgs aren’t legit or just won’t work. Was wondering if anyone here had a similar situation or maybe just knows some orgs/resources that are reputable for stuff like this ?
Anyways TLDR: My transphobic mom wants to talk to a “professional” to help her understand my transition but I don’t know where to find the resources for that, any suggestions ?
Some extra context: I have to find it bc if I let her she will choose an obviously biased source who will side with her. Preferably would like to look for someone who’s not very “in your face” about being LGBT+ supportive just bc she also won’t hear them out about it (will claim they have “illogical minds”) Truly looking for a neutral party that just has common sense and morals 😭😭
