TL;DR: I've never had a haircut in my entire life before because of religion and I'm looking for guidance on how to best proceed with getting one for the first time, especially with a high hairline
I'm a 18m and I was raised in a Sikh family. In case you don't know, followers of the religion are supposed to never cut any hair ever since birth. Men tie it up and typically wear a turban over top.
As a result, I have very long hair that goes down to my knees and very thick and heavy. I am not religious anymore and because of personal reasons, I want to get my hair cut. Obviously I have 0 experience with this so I wanted to ask some questions.
Here's what I want to ask:
- What's the best way to get this done? I read one other post I could find on this topic and they said to find a mid to high-end hair salon for your first ever cut, and explain to them everything I just said. Would it be a good idea to try to trim my hair on my own beforehand?
- Hairstyle recommendations to ask for? Should I just tell the stylist to do what they think is best?
- Would it be better to just get a buzz cut and have it grow fresh?
- Anything else I should know/other advice? I'm just very lost as I obviously know nothing about getting my hair cut.
Thank you.
