How would you crochet a tiny fencing mask for a dragon plushie?
Hey all,
I'm part of my uni's fencing club and we've got a little Welsh dragon plushie as our mascot. I want to crochet him his own tiny fencing mask, but the thing is, I've only ever followed patterns before, never tried making anything up from scratch, and I have no idea where to start.
For anyone unfamiliar, a fencing mask is a curved metal mesh dome that covers the face, with a padded bib hanging off the bottom to protect the neck. So it's a slightly weird shape, and it needs to fit over a dragon's head/snout which makes it weirder.
Really I'm after any general advice, but a few things I'm wondering:
- How do you even approach designing something like this with no existing pattern?
- Is this wildly ambitious as a first non-pattern project, or actually doable?
The dragon is about 25cm high, I will include a picture of how the plushie itself looks like.
