Hi, I'm wanting a neoprene surface for board games. I'm UK-based.

I've settled on wanting black, plain (no pattern), edge-stitched (ideally, not essential), roughly 1.3x.8m (~50x30"), ≥2mm thick.

I've landed on 2 options:

  1. Titanwolf: a very oversized German mousepad I can get from Amazon http://amazon.co.uk/dp/B093C9JH32
  2. Allplay (formerly BoardGameTables.com) via US http://allplay.com/playmats/solid-color

As of today, it's £40 for the former, ~£69 (incl ~£7 shipping + ~£12 import @ 20% VAT) for the latter. So my question is whether Allplay is really £29 (~$39) better.

I can't find any direct comparisons, so all I have to go by is that Titanwolf is 'designed' for desks (mouse & kb), Allplay for BGs; and that Titanwolf is 3mm thick, Allplay is 5mm.

I can't find anything objective about what that 'design' might make better about Allplay, so I would love to hear if someone has used a mouse pad and could point to a difference than ones aimed for tabletop games.

And I've heard 5mm is an added luxury (more durable, better feel & protection, more stable) with downsides (harder to carry, costs more, worse card pickup, more difficult to store, heavier).

Any advice? TIA!
