I just got my hands on an old WMF Blitz 1000 coffee machine that uses a mercury tilt switch to connected to a swimmer to discern if there is water in the pressure kettle. Is it safe to continue to use given that its about 50-80years old? Should there be some precautionary things installed?(i believe there was some padding at the top which is crumbling). Is there some neat replacement for it? The ball bearing tilt switches i have found are either not fitting for 240v, too large or too expensive.
