I recently applied to FET in Cork and they tagged my application as an international student because I was born abroad. However I have Irish citizenship (from the foreign birth registry) and have lived in Ireland for the last 8 years.

I thought there might have been an error so I contacted the college. The person I was in correspondence with insisted I was an international student because I was born abroad and wouldn't acknowledge any of my questions about my citizenship in relation to my application.

Is this normal? As far as I was aware if you have citizenship and have been a resident for an extended period of time, colleges tag your application as local rather than international. The tuition fees between the two are vastly different which is why I want to check.
