I currently have a B760 DS3H DDR4 motherboard and an i5-13400F, and I'm thinking about upgrading to an i7-14700F.

My main concern is whether this motherboard will limit the CPU. I've read that the VRMs on this board aren't the best and can overheat under heavy load.

From what I understand, it technically supports 14th gen CPUs, but I'm worried I won't get the full performance out of the 14700F, especially in heavy gaming sessions

I don't plan to overclock, but I also don't want to run into issues like thermal throttling or having to power limit the CPU just to keep things stable.

So now I'm not sure if the upgrade is worth it. If the motherboard ends up bottlenecking the CPU, I'd have to upgrade it as well (maybe to a better B760 or even Z790), and at that point I'm wondering if it makes more sense to just save more money and switch to AM5 instead.

What do you think? Is it safe to go for the 14700F on this board, or should I reconsider the whole upgrade path?

A close friend offered me this upgrade deal ( he s also upgrading ) and I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it for 1440p gaming and fps games . I’m assuming everything is working fine and compatible. ( Prices refer to my country )

Current PC:

  • i5-13400F
  • RTX 4070
  • B760 DS3H DDR4
  • 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
  • 1TB SSD

Offer:

  • i7-14700F
  • RTX 4070 Super (thermal paste already replaced)
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer III 280mm AIO (brand new, sealed)

Price difference**:** 250-340 dollars ( depends on what I can get for my old parts. )

Is this actually worth it for gaming at 1440p and fps games , or would it be smarter to keep my current setup and save for a bigger GPU jump later?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
