I attended CCXP Mexico and got a couple of books signed by Rafael Albuquerque.
For context, I was charged separately for the signature and the remark, which set a higher expectation in terms of quality and consistency. From what I saw, he was the only artist at the table structuring it that way.
I made sure to arrive early to avoid any fatigue factor, and I was very respectful during the interaction.
During the session, I noticed he was working only with black ink and didn’t bring additional tools or materials to adapt to different covers. Also, his table was left unattended multiple times for extended periods.
The remarks I received felt rushed and not aligned with what I would expect given the setup and pricing.
From a collector standpoint, this matters because remarks are typically meant to enhance the book’s value. In this case, I’m concerned they may actually reduce resale appeal compared to either a clean signed copy or a higher-quality sketch.
I understand conventions can be variable, but the overall experience felt inconsistent given that this was a paid setup with separate charges.
Curious if others have experienced similar situations with paid remarks.
