Yeah I know Im late to the party lol

A few years back, around 2020 maybe, is when I started watching this series. I watched it with English subtitles initially and was not interested AT ALL in learning German, at that point in my life lol. (I was In Japan at that point and was trying to learn Japanese.)However I only watched the first two seasons before I stopped watching it. My undiagnosed AHDH decided to go on about something else lol

It wasn't until 2023 when I decided to visit Germany for the first time that I knew I had to learn German so that I could move to Germany one day.

Because I loved the Dark so much, at least the first two seasons I told myself I would rewatch it after I reached a high German level.

1.5 years later I did just that. As mentioned earlier in another post, I watched the series again but with German audio and subtitles only. There were a lot of words I missed trying to keep up with audio and reading but for the most part I understood everything.

The combination of me staying consistent enough to reach such a level in another language, as well as watching a show in another language and understanding everything has been such a euphoric surreal feeling that I never want to end.

This show has gone down in history as one of my favorite shows.

Ugh Ich hasse, dass sie endet hat, aber jede Ende ist nur ein Anfang.

I cant wait to dive more into German TV and movies. This was the first series auf Deutsch I’ve ever watched and completed.

Yesterday, I had a speaking Unterricht with my German tutor. We talked about a few things but towards the end of the session I brough up how I got through the entire series "Dark" on netflix with only German audio and subtitles. He wanted me to explain what the plot was about but OMFG....The struggle of finding the right words to explain that a one guy, Jonas, attempts to rescus another boy who was transported from the year 2017 to the 1980s, only to find out that this boy, Mikkel is his father was mind bending in my attempt lol.

I still have a ways to go in order to communicate not only my thoughts but complex concepts, stories, etc. but at least I used some complex scientific terms dealing with Physics and time travel to him lol.

Nevertheless, I still have two more episodes to go to finish the entire series. I watched the first two seasons a few years ago but never finished the last season (before I started learning German, nonetheless so English subtitles the first time around). Fast forward to today I have watched all seasons only in German 😝

I'm going to continue watching this series a few more times but with no subtitles to really shift the gear upward.

Ive been studying German for almost 1.5 years now and I honeslty cant believe Ive gotten this far with it. Ive always been inconsistent with my goals but these last few years have transformed me.

I believe I started watching the series “Dark” a little bit before I started learning German and of course I had english subtitles on while watching it.

Aber jetzt kann ich alles verstehen!—mit deutsche Untertiteln natürlich.

Sometimes I can understand a lot even without the subtitles so Im really proud of myself yet this feels so damn surreal. I feel like Im in a whole new world watching a german TV series and understanding the words and the speech of it.

10 years ago I wouldnt believe I had conquered such a feat studying a language long enough to actually see the fruits of my labor🥹

Im rewatching the series rn to really dive into German immersion
