How Tip2Tip China contributed to my Hong Kong trip
edit: apparently i fucked up.
Way before Tip2Tip China was even a concept, my partner and I booked our HK trip. And watching Lud and Michael, there were a few words/phrases that I picked up with which I had the privilege of being able to use in HK. The most common ones were:
- dui/bu (yes/no)
- zai na li (where is x?)
- keyi/bu keyi (can/can't x)
- tuijian (recommendation)
When the skills hit, you feel like a god. I'm part Chinese with nowhere near the fluency of the two guys, but every hit makes me feel like my anscestors morphed with my soul or some shit.
However when the skills miss, the native people look at you like you just shit and pissed yourself in public. I asked this lady in a booth how far x was (x duo shao gong li). This was followed by the stare of utter disapproval that you even tried to exist, and made me want to kill myself.
Regardless, Tip2Tip made me feel interested in Mandarin again after it being forced on me my entire life growing up. Might grab a book or two later.
tldr: don't play new champs in ranked lobbies. got my ass handed to me
