In NYC, 2nd floor in connected houses. Been in the same house for 30 years now and never seen a roach before. Between yesterday and today, we saw 2.
First one was much larger than the second and very dark reddish/black. I would say it was kind of thick? I’ve handled hissing cockroaches before and I’d say the one we saw was slightly shorter but meatier. I couldn’t get a picture. It was on the doorframe of the bathroom. I went to grab phone and something to smash it with but by the time I got back it was gone. It looks like there’s an opening between the doorframe and the wall.
Second one I had my phone handy and it was under the sliding door to our deck/backyard - we have a screen door and a magnetic screen curtain there but the frame definitely isn’t sealed well.
It’s been warm and now humid and raining so I’m really hoping that they made their way in from outside because we had the back door open.
We aren’t especially dirty people - vacuum/mop once a week, bathroom is regularly sanitized and we rarely leave food out or dishes in the sink.
Any ideas on IDs? And any extra input would be very appreciated.
