Recently renovated and now my roof is leaking
About a year ago I was fortunate enough to acquire my late grandfathers estate and farm ground. It’s an exciting chapter in my life knowing I get to honor his memory and raise a family in the home that I had so much love and joy in.
With that being said, it’s an 80 year-old home and needed a lot of patchwork. This part of the addition had old panel boarding and ceiling tile. My wife and I decided that we wanted to go with a clean sheet rock look. about five months ago I spent two weeks replacing the walls and ceiling, plus sanding and painting. We were really happy with how it turned out. It’s a very cozy living room. Space.
Winter is coming to an end here in Indiana and we’ve been getting our seasonal rains. we got about 3 inches of rain in less than 12 hours. This was the result.
We called in a roof expert, and he determined that we were going to have to replace the roof on the addition (~6,000 USD)
For all of you who would relish in telling me “should’ve done the roof first“:
the roof was inspected by 3 different inspectors and received the ‘all clear’ (yet another example of inspectors not knowing what they’re talking about)
the roof is only 12 years old. Should have plenty of life left. The roofer said that the shingles were installed incorrectly and weren’t sealing properly. Also, there was no ice and water installation. Whoever installed the roof last didn’t know what they were doing.
