Book of Mormon vs Bible Statistical Analysis
I wanted to share some interesting findings I made when doing some statistical analyses on the raw text of the Book of Mormon vs the KJV Bible. Disclaimer: I am not using a supercomputer or am a data scientist, but I do lots of work with statistics and have access to some decent computational tools. My goal was to show that regardless of the claims, the BoM portrayal of the Biblical Jesus and theological view is completely anachronistic.
Some of the most interesting things are: when comparing Jesus' direct speech in the BoM vs the Bible, BoM Jesus speaks in 57% longer sentences than Biblical Jesus, and asks questions at half the rate of Biblical Jesus. This is more indicative of BoM Jesus being a 19th century preacher, in my view, than the more socratic, 1st century Jewish Rabbi Jesus. BoM Jesus also says "and it came to pass", Joseph's pet phrase, a ton, something that Biblical Jesus never says once, among other things.
BoM Jesus also uses developed Christian theological phrases constantly, such as my church, my gospel, my doctrine, etc., in ways the Biblical Jesus did not.
Another point of note is that the Old Testament never says the name Jesus Christ, nor does it ever state many, or any, New Testament Christological phrases such as Holy Ghost, Redeemer, Gospel, Resurrection, or others, while the BoM before Christ comes uses these terms extensively. The BoM characters are predicting Christ's birth down to the exact day with his full name, while the Old Testament prophets only had shadows and glimmers of the coming "Messiah" figure.
To summarize, everything I can see just by analyzing both texts points to the idea that the BoM was written well after Christian belief and Christology had been synthesized, as nobody in the Old Testament had anywhere near those beliefs at that time. The other major summary that struck me is that BoM Jesus is clearly a different person than Biblical Jesus. He lectures rather than asks questions, and refers to himself constantly, almost arrogantly, among other differences in speaking. Not to mention the BoM Jesus uses references to Roman practices such as crucifixion, turning the other cheek, walking the extra mile with the soldiers, which of course would have made no sense to the Nephites.
There are many other points here, but for the sake of brevity I will attached my findings like below for anyone interested. With AI tools nowadays, almost anyone can pick up the raw texts and do some basic stylometric analyses and see for themselves how different the voices are in both texts, and can pretty clearly find Joseph's fingerprints all over the "ancient" text of the BoM.
