My baby already drinks water from his Dr. Brown straw cup but for some reason he won't drink his milk from there. I give him comfort milk before naps and bedtime because that's what he's used to. But he doesn't take it any other thing besides the bottle which is a bad thing to do according to his dentist. I bought three different straw cups already and he still doesn't do well with them. Any suggestions?
I wanted to share a scary experience I had today in hopes that it helps another parent stay vigilant. My son had a balloon that popped—you know those little round plastic confetti pieces inside? They splattered everywhere. I vacuumed immediately and truly thought I got them all.
A little later, I realized I missed one. It looked just like one of his yogurt melts, and before I could reach him, he popped it into his mouth. I wasn't fast enough to yank it out. He started gagging, seemed fine for a second, and then started gagging again.
My husband walked through the door exactly when this was happening. I was panicking because I thought our son had swallowed it or was choking. My husband kept telling me to "calm down," but I could see my son going from babbling one second to being in total distress the next. I knew something was wrong.
It turns out the plastic piece wasn't swallowed.
It was stuck firmly to the roof of his mouth, which is why he was gagging on and off.
Please, trust your instincts. If you feel something is wrong, don't let anyone talk you out of it. You know your baby best. And a note to partners: If your spouse is drowning in fear and in distress, please don't just tell them to be calm. Act with urgency and help us. We need a partner in a crisis, not a critic! 😤
