Has anyone else experienced the extreme, almost mafia-like territorial monopoly among scooter taxi drivers in Pattaya?

I was in Tree Town ordering a Grab to pick me up at the bar where I was sitting, simply because I was too lazy to go look for one (even though they’re usually waiting on every corner).

Once the driver arrived and I hopped on the back, all the surrounding taxi drivers (non-Grab drivers wearing orange vests) started screaming, chasing us, and even throwing things. One driver actually managed to stop us and gave the young guy driving the scolding of his life, before he was finally able to steer off and drive away.

I reckon they really hate Grab drivers who accept about 30% of the local “tourist fare.”
