What to do if someone heavily references your work with no credit?
Hey guys! The question’s basically in the title.
I created a work a week ago and a few days after, a post showed up on my Twitter feed showing something very similar to what I drew.
I did a reverse image search on my work, and I found a one was very similar to my original work! The same exact composition, same franchise, same characters, same idea.
And again, I’m already very lenient with reposts and heavy inspiration/remakes. I used to not even allow reposts at all, but I changed it. As long as there’s credit, I really don’t mind anything!
But I really don’t want it to escalate, their artworks are both beautiful, I just wanted credit, especially because both of them have way bigger followings than me.
What should I do? I know no art is original and that people get inspired, but I’d like a little credit especially if it’s heavily based on my work. I try my best to credit others when applicable, so I am a little upset. But, obviously, I want to remain respectful and I’m open to discussion.
Thank you all. :)
[Edit: I have talked with a bunch of people about this, and they think that they both copied me, but I really did not want to escalate it or make it a bigger issue than it already is, so I did not want to make a callout post, or anything of the sort, especially because even if I highly doubt it, there could just be a coincidence.]
[Edit 2: one of them clarified, it’s all good. :) ]
