I've just finished Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and while I love it and it's become one of my favourite games of all time, I'm surprised how The Witcher 3's dialogue's direction is still so unmatched for me...
[This is not a dissing towards KCD2, I love the game and it's become one of my favourites OAT, I just wanted to vent about how good a specific part of The Witcher 3 and how almost unmatched it has been for all these years]
As per title, I'm surprised.
What I mean is not the writing and voice acting. I mean the direction, the character's expressions and animations...
Baldur's gate 3 is the only one who might top Witcher 3 for me. But I'm still astounded how good W3's dialogue scenes were.
The way some shots are uniquely framed, the way the characters move, their facial expressions, almost every dialogue feels absolutely unique and with a specific purpose in my mind on what the scene wanted to convey.
Most of them didn't feel like "dialogues" from a game (even if they are), because everything feels so alive. I've played a decent amount of RPGs, and most of them handle dialogue scenes pretty blandly, they all feel "samey"
I love to death Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but I include it too among the "Generic RPG dialogue". Most of the it is just a banal shot/reverse shot of two characters talking with pretty undercooked facial animations.
I am not blaming the game for thay, this game is one of the biggest games I've ever played and considering all the other contents, it would be an ungodly amount of work to have the same polished scenes as in TW3, but that's all the more reason for which I now appreciate the latter even more (and it was already among my favourites)
I have accumulated over 1000 hours in TW3 across all these years, and I have RARELY skipped dialogues because so many of them feel so unique and detailed, and I just wanted to vent about this because it's amazing how the game's still so unmatched in this, Cd Projekt absolutely blew this out of the park
