Hi Engineers! Would love to have your thoughts on this.
As a CE (qa/qc) na from the field nagsimula, I've grown to rely on line-and-ruler culture -- mano-manong calculations and palakihan ng monitor/A3 print para lang mas malinaw ang units, until ilagay sa Excel for documentation and further calculation. And then there were the construction calculator templates.
Recently lang (November 2025) ako nag start gumamit ng digital estimating tools, such as Planswift and Bluebeam. Having been the first 'neer na ginagamit sila as tools sa setup namin, I've grown complacent na i-pace yung sarili ko sa kung gaano lang ka-bilis and ka-intricate yung resident estimator namin.
Until I got out of our somewhat primitive setup, I can say na nakaka-culture shock.
Sobrang bagal ko palang mag-estimate compared sa market averages (For General Construction) ngayon.
Easy-apply Assembly templates.
AI-powered takeoff software (Togal, Zz, OST).
Automated Excel Sheets.
Which brings me to the question: In your experience, what were the steps that you took in order to get over the massive learning curve for these estimating softwares?
Currently, I'm planning to do a two-step backward, baby steps forward approach.
I need to get rid of the field memories for a while, kasi definitely factor sya sa mentality ko na ramdam ko kung gaano ako ka-bagal, considering that I'm pursuing a fast-paced, volume-output engineering discipline.
Pivoting from site work to office, and definitely on the way to getting that CVA/remote work bread 🥹 please roast my resume!
I never thought I'd get this much of a sanity check when co-working with Claude and GPT for estimates and re-checking projects, especially when prompted openly as an assistant and not as the main thinker.
Para kang may Manager, coordinator, and associate estimator all at the same time!
Any tips with CoWork or experiences with AI that worked with you guys on your CM and QS work? I'd love to know!
