My girlfriend and I were having a normal convo trying to get to know each other. She then jokingly tells me:
"You have no respect for others"
I respond with
"I have too much self respect to waste my time with people that don't matter to me"
She responds with
"Ummm, every individual matters. That's a completely weird thing of you to say."
I say
"No of course everyone matters, But I'm only gonna use my time on people that matter most to me."
The rest of the convo was just her trying to explain to me that my philosophy is wrong.
I was trying to explain to her that she isn't a placeholder and that the time we spend carries weight. I guess she interpreted it as me having no value towards strangers. She then cut me off after this incident and I keep replaying the convo in my head. I just wanna know if I was in the wrong. Or maybe I could've worded it better from the start? I just need advice on what I could do better for the next time I have a problem like this..
