Greetings! It's getting hot so I'm pulling out the AC. Last year we noticed it had mold and, foolishly, stored it moldy over the winter.

I opened it up to clean it today and it was a disaster. I managed to get most of the dust out, but the mold is posing a problem. Much of it is in areas that (in my mind) require further disassembly than I initially anticipated.

I have a SereneLife SLPAC14. I've tried searching for how to deep clean these things, but it's all people just cleaning out the coils, which is good, but not where much of my problem lies.

The fan in the front and the styrofoam around it have quite a bit of mold on it, but I can't really reach it to clean it. I could get some of the styrofoam, but I don't think I can clean the actual fan itself without disassembling the thing further. Is this something a normie can do, or should I defer to a professional? Or is it just too moldy and should be condemned?

I've included pictures of

  • the front fan itself (This is the problem area.)
  • the underside of the control panel (I can clean this, but it may contribute to a "kill it with fire" verdict.)
  • the top (evaporator?) coils (I vacuumed it but they still look nasty. I've heard you can spray them with a vinegar solution and then just rinse them with a hose.)
  • the sides of the top coils, which are covered in rust (Unrelated to the mold issue, but concerning.)

Thanks in advance!
