I own a P365 XL and a P365 X-Macro (redundant, I know, as the difference is only the grip module, I digress). A couple of weeks ago, after watching some reviews and hype content for the P365 DH3 AXG, I decided to purchase one for [potential] competition use, as I was led to believe that this model was an "out of the box" starter comp pistol, from the marketing.
It is not. When I received the pistol from my FFL, I immediately took it to my gunsmith to re-cerakote in black, because I don't live in the desert. When he opened the gun up, he had a nice long laugh at how poorly the cerakote was applied and how it's coverage was embarrassing. Many internal areas had no coating of any kind, leaving just bare metal in many locations. The "DH3" logo is very lightly lasered on, but that's nitpicking.
The major issue is the internal component quality. Everything is simply stock Fuse parts (MIM, Plastic). I paid $1300 (no optic), out the door for the DH3, whereas, a Fuse with an AXG grip module runs about ~$900 (no optic) at my LGS. So, for an additional $400, the only "performance" upgrade are the slide top vertical lightening cuts.
So, I called Sig. First rep said he'd get back to me on what was going on with the pricing and didn't call or email. Called again. Second rep, in so many words, told me that I was fucked and it was my fault for not reading between the lines to understand that it WASN'T a competition pistol, even though it's got a competition shooter's name on it, marketing listing things like how it's easier to make Power Factor, and showing it being used in a competition setting.
If you shoot competitively, you know that the firing schedule for a comp gun is exponentially higher than, say, a CCW pistol. So, for the DH3 to have a plastic guide rod, plastic grip panels, MIM extractor, plastic striker sleeve, and more MIM and plastic throughout ...is inviting hard mechanical failures, not just the replacement of regular wear components (e.g. springs).
Since I've already cerakoted it, it's mine, and I'll incrementally drop another grand into it to replace the stock internals that I believed would be upgraded to warrant the $400 upcharge.
So, if you want a big P365, just get a Fuse with AXG grip module and turn your savings into mechanical upgrades. Avoid the DH3. Don't be stupid like me.
TL;DR: I paid $400 for a few slide cuts.
