I (23f) just had my little sister (22f) call me tonight crying, admitting how her girlfriend of 3 years has been treating her. For context, my little sister is currently at university 2 hours away full time getting her master's and doing her practicum and field work. For the first 2 years of her time at this university, she's been financially supporting this girlfriend and busting her ass to balance school and work so this bitch could drop out and play video games all day. My sister did all of the chores, and had to beg her girlfriend for affection and would get mocked if she cried.

My family knew about this and tried to pull her out of this situation, but they clung on for some reason. My mom reacted kind of poorly and pestered my little sister so much to leave that she shut my parents and my older sister out. She kept insisting to me over time that things had gotten better, but I had a gut feeling they weren't.

Today, she called me and told me that things, were in fact, NOT better. Because of her schooling getting more intense and the strict GPA her last year of her masters requires, she made a plan with her girlfriend that her gf would (finally) get a job and support her while she finishes this last bit of school. Now the girlfriend has ramped up the abuse.

My little sister blew her savings trying to support this bitch, so she doesnt have anything left and now her girlfriend refuses to give my sister money for anything. She cried and told me that she cries and begs for food for her and her cat, and her girlfriend refuses. She's been either going hungry or eating the scraps from the food the girlfriend buys for herself like a stray dog. She wont give her money to do laundry, so shes been washing her clothes in the sink. She gets screamed at if she "moves too loud", if she tries to wash a dish for her to eat off of, or asks for a hug from her gf. And I have a feeling she didnt even tell me all of it.

I told her i would drive up right now and beat her girlfriends ass and take her home with me, and she begged me not to, so I just sent her some money and I plan on working more to help her build a savings to get out. She asked me not to tell my parents, but I feel like I need help with this, but I dont want her to push me away too and suffer alone.

My friend thinks I should tell my parents, my boyfriend is worried it'll just get worse if I do. Im so lost and feel helpless. I told her she could come back home and stay with me and finish her degree later but she refuses.

I dont know what the right thing to do is.
