So I’m diabetic now.
I was prescribed this medication by my nurse practitioner after I sought help for insomnia and frequent panic attacks and OCD intrusive thoughts. Took this and other antipsychotics for 18 months, and I’m experiencing type 2 diabetes symptoms (namely acanthosis nigricans and diabetic neuropathy that impacts my ability to walk on the worst days). I’ve been dieting with low carb food and cutting out soda entirely (which used to be a staple of my diet) and I lost 10 pounds but my symptoms aren’t budging.
I eat not very healthily and I’m borderline overweight (gained a significant amount of weight from the drugs he put me on) but I exercise regularly and really don’t eat that much compared to a lot of people I know. I know people who weigh twice or even three times as much as me who eat mountains of junk 24/7, don’t exercise and they’re not even prediabetic. To add to this, I’m 23 years old and have no family history of type 2 diabetes so it’s not that likely I just randomly lost the genetic lottery. Physically active 23 year olds who are 5-10 pounds overweight aren’t supposed to get fucking type 2 diabetes, especially without family history. And no, it’s very likely not a slow onset type 1 (which I do have relatives with), type 1 doesn’t get acanthosis nigricans. I read online that antipsychotics such as this one can trigger diabetes by permanently damaging your metabolism.
I told some people online I was thinking about going after him for medical malpractice (he prescribed a not psychotic person a very strong antipsychotic and destroyed their body in the process) and I was basically laughed at and called a delusional Karen. I don’t even want or care about money, I’ll sue him for 1 dollar. I just want people to know what an incompetent fuck he is, I’ve had many issues with him over the years, this is just one. I don’t think it’s right that he can prescribe dangerous drugs to someone who wouldn’t even benefit from them willy nilly and ruining their physical health with zero consequences at all.
Call me insane, call me stupid, I don’t care. I fucking hate him and he doesn’t deserve his license.
